This pair of French antique café brûlot cup and saucer from the Charente region of France is a charming set dating back to the 1920s.

The reason these cup sets were so thick was to withstand the temperature change when cognac or cheap eau-de-vie would be added to the saucer and ignited, then poured into the cup to warm up the coffee. This tradition to revive coffee after it had gone cold was due to the high price of coffee. It just couldn't be wasted!

The elegant design features white porcelain with green and gold banding, making it a decorative and stylish addition to any kitchen or dining collection. These pieces are a true reflection of French craftsmanship and tradition in serving coffee.

The cups measure about 3 in. high, with a top diameter of 2.25 in. Thet can hold 1/2 measuring cup maximum.

the saucers have a diameter of 4.75 in.
