Antique Swiss Cylinder Music Box w/Bird Inlay. Jacot’s Safety Check. 1890. Works

The Grand Antique Mall, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, presents an antique Swiss cylinder music box, featuring a rosewood veneered case with bird and flower inlay on both the lid and the box’s front. Nickel plated parts. Circa: 1890. The music box plays a selection of popular tunes (most likely 6; there is no sheet) of the era with a rich, strong, and complex sound. Wound by a lever on the left side; on the far right are the START/STOP switch and the CHANGE/REPEAT switch. The silver safety check reads: JACOT’S SAFETY CHECK PAT SEPT 22, 1885. Jacot & Son (later Jacot Music Box Co.) was a prominent New York City importer and retailer of high-quality Swiss cylinder and disc music boxes, operating roughly between 1888 and 1911. They sold premium Swiss movements, often featuring the patented "Jacot Safety Check" to protect cylinders and combs. The music box has been cleaned and oiled. Tested and works.
