This is a magnificent Benjamin Franklin Bronze Inkwell stand, cast in solid bronze and produced by one the worlds top five best bronze foundry's of the 19th Century, the great Ferdinand Barbedienne, Paris, France.
The Bronze Bust is of one of North America's (USA) Founding Father's "Benjamin Franklin".
And was produced at the Barbedienne works around approx. c1860
The bronze bust itself was re-produced from the original large Benjamin Franklin Bronze by Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1860 only after going through the Bronze Sculpture Reduction Mechanic process which was developed by Achille Collas (see the "A. Collas" foundry medallion stamp mark as well as the full "F. Barbedienne" Signature foundry mark on the rear of the bronze)
This piece is no lightweight! it weighs approx.17kg The presentation plaque was placed on to this piece a while later in its life, so this would signify it was sold in the 19th Century and the buyer used it as a presentation gift for a Director of the Bank of the Netherlands in 1897.
Condition is excellent apart from a natural flaw in the marble stand, however there is is no movement in the piece and it remains a solid constructed piece.
And there is only one of the Crystal Glass Inkwell inserts remaining, according to the bronze verdigris build up inside the inkwell housing where it would normally sit it has been lost for many decades.

It can be shipped worldwide at cost to buyer, it could also be posted to any UK address via Parcelforce 24 hour express, It can also be collected personally or by an arranged courier at the buyers cost. I feel the listed price is very appropriate for a 19th Century Bronze of Benjamin Franklin of this quality. As they say try and find another?
