Vintage Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 P4 2.3ghz 256mb 20GB Win2K W/ Power Brick

This is one of those machines that just looks correct for its early 2000s release. The deep blue colors, semi transparent keycaps, the twin muscle car exhaust fans to tame the prntium 4 beast, its got it all!

I got this purely because I had a satellite a25 and a45 already and wanted to see what the mid tier unit got you. Turns out it gets you a completely different experience! While the a25 and a45 are on the same chassis platform, the a35 is completely different, more in line with like an older satellite 2000 from the late 90s, just modernized for the 21st century. This shows in just how heavy and well built the base chassis of this machine is. You could use this as a home defense weapon if you need to haha.

As far as this unit goes, its in fantastic shape for its age and has almost no wear on the bottom rubber feet or on the top lid. The battery even holds a great charge!

When trying to set this unit up, I was unable to find the right recovery iso for an xp install, so I went with a fully updated win2k sp4 install, and managed to get the most important drivers to work like the graphics, sound and such. Not everything is installed, but its usable. I typed up a long note on battery power to test it and it did very well.

I cleaned out all the dust and repasted the cpu with some arctic thermal paste, ensuring its got plenty of life left. The hard drive this came with was dead, so I replaced it with my last ide drive, and old Hitachi 20gb. It sounds healthy and boots reasonably quickly. Its defragmented and ready to go as well!
