Top Gun is a classic aviation action film starring Tom Cruise as a talented but reckless U.S. Navy fighter pilot selected to attend the elite Top Gun Fighter Weapons School. The movie helped turn the legendary Grumman F-14 Tomcat into one of the most recognizable military aircraft in the world. Throughout the film, F-14s perform dramatic carrier launches, high-speed dogfights, and breathtaking low-level maneuvers against enemy MiGs. Directed by Tony Scott, the movie became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its thrilling aerial sequences, memorable soundtrack, and enduring portrayal of speed, competition, and naval aviation excellence. Its spectacular aerial footage cemented the F-14's status as an aviation icon and inspired countless future pilots and aviation enthusiasts.

Please note: This model arrives with wolfpack stickers on the tail fins that can easily be removed to reveal pad-printed fictional VF-1 emblems from the movie. A decal sheet is also included to apply Maverick and Goose's names to the canopy rail.

Grumman F-14A Tomcat

Designed to carry the formidable long range AIM-54 Phoenix missile, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was first flown on December 21st, 1970. Made famous by the Hollywood film Top Gun, the F-14 replaced the F-4 Phantom II as the US Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter. Its design includes a variable geometry wing that can sweep back for high speed supersonic intercepts and forward for improved positioning in air to air dogfights. Nicknamed "Bombcat," the F-14 spent much of its late career in an air-to-ground role, carrying the Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) system.
