Cast Iron Civil War Signal Cannon, early 1” Winchester 10ga Black Powder Breech Loader

This functioning miniature model field cannon is a stylised replica of 19th century artillery; from the 12lb Napoleon of the American Civil War through the early breech loader that saw service in the Span-Am War at the end of the century.

The cast iron two wheel field carriage is mounted with an original Winchester Model 98 10ga Breech-Loading Salute Cannon barrel. No modifications were made to barrel assembly, as the cast iron was made to accommodate the Winchester’s trunnion specifications. The grey iron carriage was possibly made in the late 50's or 1960's. Overall very unique and a very strong & sturdy piece with three point rest, it has 9" wheels, is 10.5" wide and is 21" overall. 
 
The piece has been refinished; beadblasted then dark black hot blued, preserving minor and authentic age pitting for generations to come. Fully functional and tested. Comes with a  wheel chock fixture to give it great stability when firing or just sitting on display in your office or man-cave shelf. 

The highly tapered and very distinctive barrel design of the Winchester Breech-Loading Salute Cannon identifies that it was manufactured between 1903 and 1908. Shortly after they were introduced in 1903, Winchester quickly discovered that if rough handled by outdoorsmen of the time the muzzle was prone to potentially problematic denting, and so in 1908 the 1" muzzle was increased to 1-1/4" in diameter for safety.
