A handsomely bound copy of this first Cambridge quarto King James Bible. The bible is complete, with the correct undated engraved general title, and with the printed title to the New Testament, dated 1630. Text in black letter in twin columns. Minor thumbing or light toning in the odd place. Title a little toned.

The odd leaf with small marginal nicks or minor blank paper loss else a solid and very sound copy, presented in a superb restored period binding.

With some contemporary ownership marks in places. With some attractive manuscript notes to the rear of the New Testament title by Elizabeth Hartree, and other family members.

Include an incomplete prayer book bound before the bible, a complete concordance and an incomplete Psalms following the bible.
 

Bound in a superb contemporary leather binding with ornate metal corner-pieces, central metal lozenge and working clasps.

The upper clasp has been expertly replaced at some time but is very well matched.

A very handsome period binding, the like of which are becoming increasingly scarce to acquire.
