WWII U.S. Army Officer’s Field Mess Chest Herkert & Meisel 1944, 469 GP
This is an original WWII U.S. Army Officer’s Field Mess Chest, manufactured by Herkert & Meisel Trunk Co. under U.S. Army Quartermaster contract during World War II. The chest is dated August 1944, less than two months after D-Day. It retains its original olive drab finish, original interior wooden storage system, and original hardware. Pls note that one of the two leather carrying handles has been replaced with a paracord handle.
The kit includes 10 plates, 6 low bowls, silverware [knives, forks, teaspoons, soup soups, serving spoons] two unique forks one marked U.S.A. M.D. and another marked 1922, 1 serving platter, 2 serving bowls, 1 pot with lid, 7 drinking cups/mugs, and 4 salt & pepper shakers all neatly boxed for easy transport.
Photos confirm this Field Mess Kit is in good condition given it’s age (80+ yrs) and use. More photos available if interested. The kit is ready for display or use and would be a great addition to any militaria collection.
