I have therefore spent a considerable amount of time and money making replacement parts out of flexible plastic. As you can see from the photos (the second photo shows the replacement above the original), it is identical in overall shape to the original. The surfaces that are mounted on the metal bracket are shiny, but are not visible so this does not matter to me.
The part is a lattice internally, this keeps the weight low (the original is sponge which hold water the moment the skin is cracked). The part is not as flexible as the original but the trade off is that it is much tougher and should therefore be a lot more hard wearing.

Falling Pillar
To assist the flexibility when mounting on the metal bracket, cut outs have been introduced in the mounting surface on the back. These parts will just click into the mounting bracket with an interference fit, but I would still suggest using your favourite adhesive to make absolutely sure.
Due to the recent modifications to the design it was simple to join the seal and the bracket and relatively easy to attach the bracket to the car hood. I did use some strong glue to fix the flange at the top to the hood mechanism as high as possible otherwise the glass can get caught on the overhang (this is shown in the last picture) I have managed to make it so there is no water ingress (hopefully I am not speaking too soon as all four Elans I have had have leaked at some point)
There is one surface that sits inside the car which is rougher than the rest which is visible in the 5th photo. Once the part is installed I found it very hard to spot unless looking for it. I will endeavour to minimise this in the parts to be supplied, however, if some remnants remain, I have permitted returns in case you receive the parts and decide you don’t want to fit them. (Buyer pays return postage)
The tatty seal is my old one that was in two pieces and only held together by theroof, I put this in to show the contrast.
Intermediate Seal
Again an interference fit into the rail but it would not hurt to add some adhesive in the same way most people did with the original seals.
