Vintage Goodmans 10” Alnico Speaker Driver c1965 4 Ohm (3.1Ω DCR) Tested Working
Original vintage Goodmans Industries Ltd (Wembley, England) 10-inch loudspeaker featuring the classic red Alnico magnet.
Date code stamped on the frame reads 6502, suggesting February 1965 manufacture.
This is a genuine mid-1960s British driver and a good working example of these units.
Specifications / Details:
- Size: 10 inch nominal
- Magnet: Alnico (red-painted pot type)
- DC resistance: ~3.1Ω (correct for a nominal 4Ω speaker)
- Made in England (Wembley, Middlesex)
Condition:
- Fully intact and tested working
- Voice coil responds correctly (battery “thump” test)
- Multimeter reading stable at ~3.1Ω
- Cone in good condition with no obvious damage
- No voice coil rub (moves freely and silently)
- Frame and magnet show surface rust / age-related wear (see photos) - doesn’t affect operation
- Original terminals present
Notes:
- DC resistance is not the same as impedance (a 4Ω speaker is expected to measure 2.5-3.5Ω on a DC resistance test); this speaker should be considered a 4Ω unit in use.
I will pack it carefully for shipping, using formed stiff cardboard for protection before placing in a larger outer box.
