Crinoids are marine animals that lived anciently and are still alive today (although, now they are sometimes called sea lilies or feather stars).
Crinoid star fossils are the star-shaped columnals that make up the stalks (or stems) of crinoids.
Pro tip: After spreading out the dirt, fill a spray bottle with water and mist the dirt/crinoid mixture. The crinoids will stay the same color, but the dirt will turn darker, which will make it easier to find them.
If there are fragments of rocks, make sure you get those wet, as well, because they may have crinoids embedded in them.
