Spendor BC1 M50 Active stereo pair of audiophile monitors.
Veneered panels excepting front panel and rear panel with amplifier.
These 3 way units are essentially the same as the very famous design Spendor BC1 speakers used by the BBC for radio and television production and many other professional companies and studios worldwide.
Manufactured by Spendor using only the highest quality materials and components they have an extremely long lifespan most likely good for many decades more without problems as long as you do not drive them too loud to the point where they are distorting. The amplifier was indeed built to match these speakers with the three way passive cross over.
They however have the benefit of an integrated 55 watt power amplifier built into the rear panel of the speakers with a volume control and XLR professional input connectors driving into a transformer balanced input..
Given a suitable cable these can be driven directly from a 3.5 mm jack from your portable player or phone output without the addition of any other equipment.
Otherwise feed from a pre amplifier such as the Amazing RME ADI Pro 2, from almost any of the excellent Quad pre amplifiers such as Quad 33 or 44 or later models and A miriad of other esoteric pre amplifiers.
As the inputs are true balanced inputs these speakers are suitable should you need to use longer input cables as the balanced inputs cancel out interference
They are highly regarded as being accurate and truthful to the original giving a very accurate stereo image and honest rendition of your input material.
Fantastic for classical music, film soundtracks and speech they will let you know what is going on in the mix.
