Wet Plate Collodion B&J 4x5 w/ Ajax Portrait Brass Lens Outfit

For your consideration: This is a 4x5 Burke & James Camera that is in good condition for its age. The red bellows are original and light tight. They have been checked for pinholes, and cracks. The black painted wood is original and has a nice patina. Some paint chipping can be seen at the front rail. The metal fittings show some wear and tarnish but are in good condition. The original leather handle is missing. All the camera movements work as they are intended and lock in place as they should. The camera is ready to use. The camera can be mounted on a tripod that has a 1/4-20" thread. The camera back can be rotated for horizontal and vertical images.

 
The  Brass lens is a Ajax Portrait lens (Burke & James) that uses water house stops (none are included). The lens has an approximate 9" focal length with an estimated aperture of f/6 (9"/1.5"). Nice portrait lens for wet plate photography. 

The listing includes a NEW 4x5 Wet Plate Collodion Developing Tank and a NEW Fixing tank. The outer tank of the developing tank is made from 3/8" Birch, stained with mahogany stain and coated with several layers of polyurethane. The inside of the outer wood tank is coated with boiled linseed oil. The lid is double hinged and has a draw catch on the front to keep the lid secure. The fixing tank frame is made with 3/8" cherry wood, stained with mahogany stain and coated with polyurethane. Both inner tanks are make with 3/16"-1/4" lexan (acrylic) that is chemically welded. The inner tanks hold approximately 350ml of chemicals.

The listing includes a plate drying rack made from cherry wood, stained and coated with polyurethane. The drying rack will hold 12 plates from sizes 4x5 up to 8x10.

The wet plate holder is New LUND that holds 4x5 plates. I purchase these directly from LUND. I sell these with no mark up; just for the convenience.
