Vintage Handbuilt 27 x 1 1/4” Track Single Speed Wheelset Airlite Hubs Mavic Rim

A vintage handbuilt set of 27 x 1 1/4” track or pathracer single speed wheels consisting of British Hub Co Airlite small flange hubs with a fixed/fixed threading laced 40/32 with stainless steel spokes into Mavic MA2 silver rims and shod with NOS Specialized Ultralight/R 27 x 7/8” High pressure cloth wall tyres. (115psi)

The tyres are a lot narrower than the usual 27 x 1 1/4” that you get so are the perfect choice for a track bike wheelset, they look so much better when fitted, the clearance and ascetics of the bike are improved so much with these tyres.

They’re New old stock and I did have them for sale for £65.00 alone before fitting them to these wheels.

The wheels as mentioned are handbuit with Airlite small flange hubs with old school spoke pattern of 40 rear and 32 front.

The rear hub has a fixed/fixed English threading but will accept a freewheel if desired.

The Mavic MA2 rims are obviously newer than the hubs but if you removed the decals they’d pass for any era with being plain silver.

The rims are clinchers not Tubs.

Both wheels spin nice and true and there’s no play in either hub.

Rear spacing is 110mm

Front spacing is 100mm

A rare size to find these rims in and I doubt you’ll find another pair of New Old Stock high pressure cloth sided Specialized tyres anywhere to go on them!
