The Nakamichi RX-505 is a legendary 3-head, auto-reverse cassette deck renowned for its unique Unidirectional Auto Reverse (UDAR) system, which flips the tape mechanically for seamless side A/B changes. It offers superior sound quality and exceptional recording capabilities, often considered as a brother of the legendary Nakamichi Dragon.
But the auto azimuth correction (NAAC) of Nakamichi Dragon would need high frequency signal over 3Khz on the tape to work. When tape in reverse, the NAAC needs to read the tape and readjust tracking again - only if it could sense high frequency and a large azimuth misalignment on the tape. Otherwise, the NAAC wouldn't work as well as intended.
In the other hand, Dragon brother RX-505 can flip the cassette, exactly as user manually turn the tape, while the head tracking and tape transport stay still in the same direction. Last but not least, the RX-has the same size plus the look and feel of the Dragon - minus the unreliable of auto azimuth correction (check side-by-side compassion photo of Dragon and RX-505 on the listing).

This RX-505 vintage cassette deck is in good cosmetic and working condition but shown signs of pre-owned item such as hairline scratches, small dings, peel off stickers, stain spots,
worn-out corners and edges... Photos are part of description. See photos
for details.
The listing is for tape deck unit and owner manual only. NO remote, No tape, No cable, or No other accessories included.
The internal electronics circuit
is in original condition. No signs of previous repair or modification.
The unit also has been fully
inspected and tested by a technician before anti-tamper stickers were placed. Serial
number also has been recorded.
Play head and all metal on tape path are demagnetize, cleaned and tested for tape speed, tracking and reading. Both play and record heads are adjusted for optimal Azimuth and Height to get maximum high-frequency response. All transport belts was inspected and replaced as needed to ensure good working condition. All dials, toggle switches, buttons, indicator lights, all inputs and outputs are tested.
The UDAR mechanical tape transport has been oiled, re-aligned and re-calibrated for smooth operation on both side of the cassette.
Forward, Rewind, Play and Record cassette tape from line input and microphone are tested. Sound output is crisp and strong on both line output and headphone.
