Waltham Model 1892 Appleton Tracy & Co. Open Face Pocket Watch

The Appleton, Tracy & Co. Waltham Model 1892 (S/N 11046577, produced in 1902) runs as it should. I would assume a service is needed for more accurate timekeeping. One jewel (the one between where it says “JEWELS.” and “ADJUSTED” on the bridge) appears to be cracked. It has been running for well over 24 hours on a single wind without a hitch. 

Dial is flawless with the exception of two very thin hairline cracks at the 27 and 30 markers. The last 15-20% of the minute hand is missing blueing. Most of the blueing on the seconds hand is missing. Hour hand looks fine.

The case is by Waltham, featuring a gold inlay of a steam locomotive motif. The original ad (see listings photos) for the case shows it cost $7 back in the 1890's, or approximately $260 in today's money. It is guaranteed for a century, which to my knowledge means that it is silver-filled to a thickness equal to roughly 1/3 of the case. Case has been polished over the years, hence some detail loss. Copper base metal showing on the crown.

The watch chain/fob appeals to be nickel. The fob is a souvenir from the 1893 Columbia Expo in Chicago, "compliments of Keystone Watch Case Co." This is period-correct for the case, which was made around 1890. 

Overall a beautiful and very solid piece.
