On offer is a superb and untouched example of the British M76 lightweight parachutists helmet. It has never been taken apart, and never even had the net and cover removed. This is the second of this type of helmet I am selling. This is the early Falklands era type with the smooth shell, with original plastic - and much hated chinstraps removed and replaced with straps from a Mk6 infantry combat helmet. Many Para's used these in preference to the official replacement straps, as they afforded a quicker method of unbuckling the chin cup.
Other original period 'squaddie' modifications is the inclusion of two foam blocks taped to the back plastic tongues of the liner to give added protection to the rear of the head. Styrofoam liner insert is intact with the two breakaway sections still in place, and the brow pad is the earlier brown leather type - although there are some light cracks to the leather which reveal it to be white.
Another thing to note is the stitched anchor points for the green tape that stops the lining folding back on itself. It is attached higher up on the liner than the later models that have it stitched to the edge. I have included a photograph of the anchor point on my other helmet for sale, see expanded photos for reference. There are no visible labels in the helmet, so I'm not sure of the size, but it fits me with ease - and my head measures 62cm in circumference.
The rubber band holding net and cover in place has seen better days and will probably eventually snap, but it is totally original to the helmet. I doubt that you will find a better example than this one. Free next day postage is included.
