ITEM DESCRIPTION
This is an exceptionally rare Fernandes RST-50, an early MIJ Strat-style vintage guitar from March 18, 1981. Finished in stunning Candy Apple Red (CAR) with a matching headstock, both premium, special-order upgrades.
The neck heel bears a clear factory date stamp for 1981-03-18. This earliest-phase RST was built by the original OEM, Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co., Ltd. To the best of my knowledge, it is the earliest-confirmed RST example I have documented. The tremolo assembly is the extremely early type that repurposes a late-'70s FST unit, a detail seen on the very first run.
As noted in Shinko Music's Japan Vintage Vol.6, custom-color RSTs such as CAR consistently used select/choice woods, reflecting their premium status at the time.
In 1981, CAR finish cost an extra ¥5,000 over the base price of ¥50,000, and a matching headstock added another ¥3,000, making this one of the highest-end configurations in the Revival Series.
The body routing matches late-1970s construction, indicating a rare transitional model. Only a few CAR-finished RST guitars are known, absent from catalogs and likely produced in extremely small numbers.
