Old Christian Box with inset Sterling Silver Cross & Miniature Prayer Hymn Books

I am offering a fascinating and rather unusual lot consisting of a nice little highly figured Jerusalem box with inset/removable silver cross, chain, miniature books and religious image.

A lovely vintage Olive Wood Box, quite small measuring roughly 13cm x 9cm x 3.5cm (about 5.25 inches x 3.5 inches x 1.5 inches). Nice natural figuration to the lid.

The box is marked 'Jersusalem' to the base, and the date 'June 1942' has been inscribed, most likely by a previous owner.

The box is simply lined on the inside, and the lid is unusual as it has a recess cut to accept the removable silver cross and chain that comes with it.

Overall in good vintage condition with slight warping to the lid (it closes well, but not completely), and with a nicely polished and waxed finish.

An attractively engraved Sterling Silver Cross, measuring roughly 47mm x 28mm, on a silver chain which is roughly 22 inches end to end when open (about 11 inches when closed / worn).

The Cross is hallmarked to the reverse with the maker's mark 'AJH', an Anchor (for Birmingham), a Lion (for Sterling Silver) and the date letter - a little tougher to read but I'm confident it is a 'W' for 1971.

When fitting the cross to the box lid the chain does not need to be removed. It inserts through a hole in the lid and inside the box, and the cross fits snugly into the recess in the lid. It is a snug enough fit for the cross to remain in place when the box lid is opened, but easy to remove from the lid simply by pushing it from the inside. There's a small amount of damage where the pendant has been removed, but not enough to spoil it's good looks.

These are really tiny, measuring about 65mm x 50mm x 15mm (that's about 2.5 inches high).

One is 'Hymns Ancient and Modern' and has an inscription inside 'B H Preston 1896'.

The other is 'The Book of Common Prayer'.

Other than the clue from the inscription I can't see any date on these books, but they are clearly old. They are in good condition for their age with all pages intact, though there is some foxing to the early pages in the Hymns book as pictured.

Both books fit nicely into the box.

The last item is a religious image which has been trimmed from a larger post card.

This above items really should stay together so will be sold as one lot - please don't ask me to split them.
