Revox B77 II HS Half (2) Track
with Nabs, Reels, Tape etc + 60 day Warranty
Buy it now or make a very near best offer. This is a MK
II B77 half (2) track stereo machine. It has ‘Varispeed’ and fixed operating
speeds of 7½-15 i.p.s. ensuring top quality of reproduction. Made in Germany it
is in good condition and fully operational. In addition it has had a service
and calibration setup. The front panel switch section and all front end
function controls have been checked and cleaned. Both wind motors have been
checked for adequate torque. Brakes have been cleaned/adjusted for efficiency
and the counter is operational. The pinch roller has been conditioned and the
capstan pressure set by means of a spring tension strain gauge. A new tape path
guide bearing has been fitted and then a final set-up, calibration and
alignment.
Faulty or suspect components have been replaced as part of
the work undertaken.
All service work has been carried out by a qualified experienced
audio engineer using a variety of test equipment including an oscilloscope,
sine wave generator, test tapes, tension gauges and industry standard
R.T.S./A.T.U. test set etc.
Operational
Performance:
The machine has been set up utilising the industry standard
‘MRL’ 233-352-482-1F0 reproducer calibration tape and the working set-up with
the tape as indicated on the stage II service report. Whilst the machine is in
the record mode, assuming the heads are kept clean, switching between source
input and tape output using new SM911 or known equally good quality tape of the
type used to calibrate we guarantee there will be little or no variation in
sound quality or level to the recorded signal at either 1KHZ or 10KHZ utilising
a test tone or music as a source input. Old or poor quality new or used tape
will not deliver these results. So please ensure you are aware of this. Whilst
not claiming this machine would not benefit still further from ‘a specialist
technician tweak/re-calibration’ for attaining desirable or further absolute
fine tuning (bias/eq setup), desirable where tape of a buyers choice is used,
there is little else required to enhance the quality of the sound in our
opinion. It is difficult to hear how any significant improvement in performance
could be achieved. That said the machine being vintage and used will not
perform as a new machine, neither could it be classed as in 'concours' cosmetic
condition and we do not offer it for sale claiming it will. It will be subject
to some fair wear and tear on all mechanical and associated electronic
components and fittings even though the unit has had a thorough service so
please bear this in mind. Small variations and fluctuations in performance may
also differ from the Manufactures original specification if analysed. In short
be realistic on your performance expectations for a used vintage machine,
perfection is not claimed and minor defects will be evident. However we would
be surprised if any listener other than one with unreasonable expectation or
the most critically acclaimed hearing should find fault with the sound
characteristics or general operational performance of the machine whilst using
the specified tape media the machine has been calibrated to.
Condition
Cosmetically fair wear and tear will be evident. Our main
aim is to sell you a machine that sounds and performs good which after all is
the machines primary function. Other than an external general clean, we’re not
claiming to 'deep clean' or 'detail' the unit, but it should reach the buyers
in a good acceptable condition. That said if we were purchasing this machine
ourselves, cosmetically we would describe it as ‘very good’ but still of course
‘used’ vintage condition. The cabinet surround is also in the main good with
maybe minor marks/etc. associated with 30-40 years of 'fair wear and tear' to a vintage
machine'. There may of course be some other minor normal ‘wear and tear’
scratches/wear marks and evidence of minor repairs to any or all areas of the
unit and of course the reels but only those we would reasonably expect with a
used vintage machine of this age and type. We can't list every possible scratch
or blemish on vintage items so please bear this in mind when considering your
purchase. If in any doubt visit and carry out a close inspection.
With our pictures we try to show the machine from various
angles so we trust you would agree they are typically reflective of the
condition with nothing deliberately hidden or omitted, so what you see is
generally what you get. In order to gauge the overall condition please use
these pictures as your initial reference point. Please remember pictures can
only show so much so if you are in any doubt, please where possible view the
item in person, or at least request further clarification or additional
specific area pictures, prior to committing to your purchase thus avoiding any
possible misunderstanding or time wasting, to either buyer or seller. Overall
we consider this is a very nice example of a MK II HS B77 (2) track machine. As
stated our aim is to sell machines that sound good and operate as designed. The
heads show some wear with lots of life still left to faithfully reproduce that
warm analogue sound so distinctive to the Revox range. To our knowledge
everything works as designed, with no major electronic or mechanical defects to
report.
Package Content:
We include the Nabs and reels as shown, The machine comes
with free used 10½" reels with used tape. The reels Nabs reels and tape
supplied are a freebie when the machine is purchased. They are used, therefore
they will be of varying quality and make. As such these items are not covered
within the warranty we offer. The tape we supply will be at least free from the
dreaded S.S.S. menace and be capable of basic music/speech recording, but we
include it only for the purpose of machine testing and not to mirror the
machine’s full reproduction clarity, the machine will sound at it’s best when new
tape is used. Remember all old used tape
will shed oxide particles and sometimes sticky residue which can quickly coat
the heads, resulting in poor sound reproduction and in some extreme cases total
stalling of the transport motors due to S.S.S. Unlike when you use good quality
new tape, frequent head cleaning will also likely be necessary. Although the
machine will operate with any brand of new or used tape, for best high quality
results new or known high quality used tape (such as Maxell) but preferably of
the type indicated in the service report must be used if the full potential of
reproduction is achieved Included is a modern type UK 3 pin plug to the mains
power lead which has been suitably fused. There is a tape head cleaning kit, a
microphone, input/output phono audio leads, so there is everything supplied,
the buyer needs to at least get started with the machine without the need for
immediate additional purchases. A completed Quality/Calibration check list is
also issued. As a bonus, also included free is a cd PDF of the operation and
service instructions which should prove useful for the buyers perusal or for
any future reference point.
If there is anything else you wish to know regarding the
proposed sale or if you require further clarification on any aspect of the
machine, or indeed the work undertaken then we can be contacted using the Ebay
'contact seller' feature found in the seller information section of the
listing.
The MK II B77 MK II (2) track machine is a quality machine with a
proven record on performance and reliability. The as described overall
condition & setup makes for a very desirable and sought after machine. If
you are seeking a good clean working example and one that will operate without
issue or excuse when unpacked, then this machine should easily meet your
requirements. We include a 60 day warranty on the unit should we have
overlooked something or if any problem should occur so when you buy from Dave
you can have peace of mind our team are there for backup. If you are seriously
interested in experiencing great real tape quality reproduction, make sure the
machine you choose has been set up and calibrated, as a reel to reel without
such set up will disappoint and may cost more in the long run if you have to
have calibration or repair work done by a specialist. Such is our confidence in
this field and of course the renowned quality build of all Revox products we
would expect that this machine should perform as the item description for many
years to come providing the heads are kept clean and tape of the type the
machine has been calibrated to, is used. Thank you for your interest and good
luck with any best offer or direct purchase you choose to make.
General Information
Postage is free to mainland UK addresses ONLY. (highlands
and offshore locations may be subject to additional charges) Buyers who collected in person must
produce the Ebay collection code before we can release the goods. It is important when you purchase that you
state in the Ebay purchase option that you intend to collect, otherwise you
will not receive the collection code, as Ebay will assume you require our free
Courier delivery.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING COLLECTION
Due to the nature of the item sold our sale terms are as
follows. If the machine is collected in person with a collection code the buyer
agrees to return the item in person should any problem arrise with the unit. By
collecting in person and following the buyers inspection and testing the buyer
agrees that the item is ‘as described’ in the listing at the time of
collection.
The item you receive will match the description we give and
will be free from major defects that prevent the basic function of the unit
from operating, i.e. in the play, record and wind modes. Any such failure will
be repaired labour free within the warranty period. As components of a vintage
machine cannot be guaranteed all replacement parts costs are excluded and will
be charged to the Customer where necessary. In the event the item proves faulty
within the 60 day warranty period the buyer agrees to return it for examination
and repair and not try to withdraw from the terms of the sale until we have had
an opportunity to address the issue(s). In most instances we will repay (a
mutually agreed value) for any buyer incurred courier charges with regards to
any return transportation costs but this will not apply to where no reported
defect can be found. The warranty covers all labour charges but as stated
excludes the cost of replacement parts. Please note and be aware we are a private
not a business seller and as such we are not obliged to accept returns where a
buyer has simply changed his/her mind on the purchase or for ‘buyer’s remorse’
or 'items not as expected'.
Remember the sale item is 50+/- years old so with safety in
mind, it's important to never leave the appliance plugged in or operational
when unattended as this could result in vintage electronic component failure
resulting in smoke or fire with possible damage, injury or loss resulting. Also
bear in mind the heavy reels can rotate at high speed and cause injury should
they suddenly become detached whilst rotating, so keep people, animals and
children at a safe distance and well away from any possible contact with the
rotating parts whilst in operation. The seller cannot be held liable in any way
for any loss or injury sustained by the buyer or any other 3rd. party whilst
using the equipment. As Once purchased operation of the equipment is strictly
at the operatives risk. The buyer agrees to accept our terms by participating
in this sale
Note: We do not accept returns except for the purpose of
warranty covered defect repairs. The buyer in these such instances arranges
return of the item to us for inspection/repair.
Any returns for repairs must be made within the warranty
period, and please note that return postage is NOT refundable unless it is
clear following our inspection that any error/defect found was mistakenly
caused by us and should this prove to be the case the machine will be repaired
or replaced and returned to the buyer any return shipping charge incurred by
the buyer will be reimbursed in this instance but only following our own
inspection and providing the defect is not due to fair wear and tear associated
with a vintage machine. The cost of any parts that fail in the warranty period
are not covered under warranty but the labour element of replacing any failed
parts is included free of charge on a buyer return machine basis.
The costs associated with any repairs or alterations carried
out by the buyer or any 3rd. party without our consent or knowledge is solely
the responsibility of the buyer
