Condition
Good overall condition. Few light marks remain on the cloth despite being washed. Some small spots still visible on the outer fabric. Fabric tie intact, stitching sound, embroidery clear.

Description
Roll-up textile knife holder designed to store and transport up to twelve knives. The body is constructed from off-white or cream plain-weave linen or linen–cotton, lined with a softly brushed cream flannel/flannelette for blade protection and light padding.

The outer flap is semi-elliptical in shape and hand embroidered in blue cotton floss with the word “KNIVES” in light blue block capitals. This is flanked by symmetrical scrolling lines and three stylised floral or leaf motifs in graduated blue shades, worked in outline and satin stitches. The seams and the twelve stitched channels forming the knife sleeves are machine sewn, with the edges bound in narrow white bias tape.

An inner guard flap runs along one side to fold over the blades before the roll is closed. The holder folds from a flat rectangle into a compact roll. The knife sleeve length is suitable for standard table knives, but the case could also be used for storing similar elongated utensils or craft tools such as palette knives, paintbrushes, or chisels.

Likely of British origin, dating from the mid-20th century (c. 1940s–1960s), and possibly hand embroidered by the owner.
