AN EARLY FOLK ART CARVED CRUCIFIX ON A SIMPLE RUSTIC BLACKENED CROSS, CA 1800

This is a primitive folk art artefact from about 1800. Carved from mutton bone and set on a plain wooden cross with tiered stand, it has certain presence, it takes you back and invites you to contemplate.

Totally original condition with a charming antique colour and tone to it. There is a little bit of crackling to the black of the wood which might be due to a poor person's bitumen covering for preservation.

Size: 39 cm high, 14 cm wide
